FAQ
The Coffee
What does "single origin" mean?
Single origin means the coffee comes from one specific country and growing region — not a blend of beans from multiple places. Each origin has its own distinct flavor profile shaped by the soil, altitude, and climate where it was grown. It's the difference between knowing exactly where your food came from and not.
How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
Very. Every bag is roasted to order — meaning your coffee is roasted after you place your order, not sitting on a warehouse shelf. In many cases it's roasted the same day it ships. That's a meaningfully different experience than grocery store coffee, which can sit for months before it reaches you.
Do you offer whole bean and ground?
Yes. Each coffee is available in whole bean or ground. If you order ground, select the grind size that matches your brewing method — coarse for French press and cold brew, medium for drip, fine for espresso.
Which grind should I choose?
— Grind Guide
Coarse — French press, cold brew
Medium-Coarse — Pour over, Chemex
Medium — Drip coffee maker
Medium-Fine — AeroPress
Fine — Espresso machine
Whole Bean — Grind at home for maximum freshness
How should I store my coffee once it arrives?
Keep it in the bag it arrived in, sealed, at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Don't refrigerate or freeze it — moisture is coffee's enemy. For best flavor, use within 2–4 weeks of the roast date.
Which origin should I start with?
If you're new to single origin coffee, Mexico is a great starting point — soft chocolate, toasted almond, and a clean finish that works well for any brewing method. If you want something brighter, try Costa Rica. If you want bold and full-bodied, Papua New Guinea. The tasting notes on each product page will help you navigate.

The Brand
Who roasts the coffee?
Five Sixteen Coffee works with a US-based specialty roasting facility that roasts every order fresh on demand. Your bag is roasted after you order it — not pulled from pre-roasted stock. The packaging carries the Five Sixteen brand because this is our coffee, curated and sold under our name.
What does "5:16" mean?
It's the time the founder, JV, is already awake — naturally, before any alarm. Five Sixteen is built for people who don't wait for the world to get started. The early risers, the road warriors, the ones already two hours into the day before most people hit snooze. Read the full story here.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Not yet — but it's coming. For now, reordering takes less than two minutes and your information is saved at checkout.
